An international exchange agreement was signed by Hokkaido Information University and Nanjing University in May, 1999, and cultural and academic exchanges were initiated. Nanjing University, a university which is well established in China, has a long history and has produced a large and excellent workforce. In August of the same year, the first China short-term study abroad summer program was implemented, and in 2005 we began accepting exchange students to study Japanese culture. The first class of students was accepted during the third year of the Faculty of Information Media program, and the participants were given status as “transfer students” in April, 2007. A short-term study abroad program at the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) started in 2002. UCSC is a famous university with a large campus near Silicon Valley. Additionally, an international exchange agreement with Rajamangala University of Technology, Thanyaburi in Thailand was signed in July, 2008.
